Best Time to Visit Kerala: A Season-by-Season Guide
Peak season, monsoon backwaters, and everything in between — how Kerala's three seasons affect what you'll see and pay.
October to March: peak season
Cool, dry weather makes this the most popular window for hill stations, beaches, and backwaters alike. Expect the best visibility for viewpoints like Top Station in Munnar, and calmer seas at the beaches. Book vehicles and houseboats ahead around the December-January holiday rush.
April to May: hot and quieter
Lowland Kerala gets hot and humid, but hill stations like Munnar and Wayanad stay pleasant. This shoulder season sees fewer crowds and sometimes better houseboat rates.
June to September: monsoon
Kerala's monsoon is heavy but scenic — waterfalls are at their fullest and the backwaters are lush and green. Some hilltop viewpoints close temporarily for safety, and coastal boating can be affected by rough seas, but this is also when Ayurvedic wellness packages are traditionally recommended.
