Kochi to Munnar by Road: Route, Distance, and Best Stops
The roughly 4-hour drive up to Munnar has a couple of waterfall stops worth timing your trip around.
Distance and drive time
Munnar is around 130 km from Kochi, typically a 4-hour drive that climbs steadily from sea level to over 1,600 metres as you enter the Western Ghats.
Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls
Both waterfalls sit right along the main route and are easy, short stops — good for a 15-20 minute break roughly two-thirds of the way up, especially scenic just after monsoon.
Timing your departure
Leaving Kochi in the early morning avoids both traffic near the city and the afternoon mist that can settle in higher up, giving the best visibility for the final stretch into Munnar.
